Residence Policy

The New Zealand Government’s immigration policy is designed to attract quality immigrants, so that people have a good education and/or good skills to offer New Zealand, or alternatively, a substantial amount of money to invest in New Zealand.

The Government made the decision to bring in quality immigrants on the economic assumption that the type of immigrants that would be let in would have the ability to themselves create jobs and employment opportunities within New Zealand.

The Government believes that the overall affect of this is a positive one on the New Zealand economy, thereby improving life for everyone. It therefore provides assistance to newly arrived immigrants, for finding employment or supporting the immigrant and their family while the primary immigrant is looking for work.

It should be noted that the Government does not offer jobs, but provides assistance for finding jobs. It is the immigrant’s responsibility to find either his or her own employment opportunities.
